Early American Hand Made Down Feather Gathering Basket

Very scarce 19th century woven splint covered basket for gathering feathers, certainly from New England, most likely by the Passamaquoddy Abenaki, circa 1840s-1850s. A round basket of shaved ash splint, with stationary carved wooden handle, cross-wrapped rim, woven bottom, and a spiral-woven lid permanently attached by a loop in its rim encircling the basket
